Average tradesman in Britain spends nearly 30% of their time behind the wheel

Findings from a poll undertaken by Budget Van Insurance show the average tradesman in Britain spends nearly 30% of their time (28.6%) driving their vehicles between jobs. This equates to over ten years of their working life behind the wheel of a van!

With so much time being spent in their vehicle, it’s not surprising that tradesmen continue to be hit hard in the pocket with fuel prices that have increased nearly 20% in the last year adding to the overall cost of maintaining a vehicle whilst on the road. Fortunately insurance costs haven’t risen by as much as inflation.

Lisa Corston, Marketing Manager, Budget Van Insurance commented: “It’s hard to imagine spending a total of ten years of your working life behind a wheel, but for many tradesmen the road is the only means of transporting their tools to so many different locations.

“The high cost of fuel affects all drivers but for most tradesmen their van is an essential part of their working life and the 20% increase in fuel over the last year has a material impact on their overheads and undoubtedly affects the profitability of their business. We can only hope that the congestion, road works and traffic wardens don’t affect van driver’s blood pressure too much!”
